Cardrona is a family run business with a loyal and caring team of staff. Trevor & Doreen Beer started Cardrona up over 20 years ago and continue to be involved in the business together with their daughter Debbie Beer, General Manager and Katherine McLeod Clinical Operations Manager to ensure the best care is provided.
Cardrona has 35 rest homes and hospital beds. At Cardrona, our philosophy is to create a home like environment where our residents and their family can feel comfortable and relaxed. As we are a small home we get to know everyone well and this enables us to provide quality care within a family atmosphere. Each resident has individual needs and we work with you to provide the care that is needed.
A positive and professional working environment is important to the overall running of Cardrona. We enjoy our work and laugh with each other and the residents. The owners are part of this team and work together with staff daily. Our workplace has a fun and supportive environment which is great for staff and residents alike.
There are several lounges and sun rooms where residents can entertain family, participate in group activities or just head up for a quiet snooze in the big comfy chairs. We have recently added in six new shared ensuites as an additional feature for our residents’ comfort.
We are conveniently located a short distance from the centre of Putaruru, with the supermarket just across the road. Cardrona’s expansive gardens with lovely eye catching roses can be viewed from the all sun rooms or enjoyed by strolling through the grounds.
We encourage visitors to come and spend time with their loved ones and to feel they are welcome at the home.
Residents can enjoy a private or shared room and we encourage everyone to bring personal effects and/or their own furniture to make them feel at home. We are available for long term and short term stays for rest home, hospital, respite and palliative needs.
01Palliative care is important and we are happy to help residents and families in need of this service. We understand that families want to spend time with their loved ones and we endeavour to accommodate this as much as possible and provide support to get through this tough time.
02We have 24/7 registered Nurses available and all carers have NZQA training. Training is undertaken in the home during the course of the day and learning is applied in a supervised way. The Clinical Operations Manager and senior staff monitor and guide all staff members to ensure they are continuing to learn and keep up their skills through approved methods and courses.
03Medical support is provided through the Tokoroa Medical Centre and care management by our own Clinical Operations Manager, Katherine Mcleod. All medication is reviewed and dispensed by our Registered Nurses. Further specialist services include Dieticians, Speech therapy, Podiatrist, Physiotherapy and other support services as required.
04Cardrona also offers regular activities and outings managed by our Activities Coordinators. We believe it is important for residents to be active (both physically and mentally), maintain interests and interact with each other. We regularly have groups visiting the home as well to sing or play to the residents. Other specialist services such as a hairdresser or spiritual advisers etc can be arranged as required.
05Delicious homemade food is a loved feature of the home and mealtimes are shared time in the dining room. Staff will assist those that may need it. Fresh fruit and vegetables are grown in our own garden and/or bought from local producers. The menu is varied and caters for special needs such as diabetes and allergies etc. Our cook is also an excellent baker and delicious treats are made on a daily basis for morning and afternoon tea.
